Steel Cut Oats: I Tried It

Good morning!

Today’s breakfast featured a new food for me:

Steel cut oats! I found them about 3 weeks ago and didn’t get to try them until now.

I had them with maple syrup & cinnamon for my first experience ;).

It tasted exactly the same as rolled oats oatmeal but with a crunch! Much more texture. I would not stop eating rolled oats for this but it is definitely a nice change.

How to Make Oatmeal with Steel Cut Oats?
  1. Use 4 parts water for 1 part oats (for a portion of 1/2 cup oats, use 2 cups water).
  2. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil.
  3. Stir in oats.
  4. After 5 minutes, reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Serve with your favorite toppings!

Not a workday breakfast, though ;). If you want to eat these but don’t have time in the morning, make them in advance and reheat in the microwave.
